Tencent senior VP Dowson Tong

The Tencent Global Partner Conference 2018 was successfully held in Nanjing on Nov. 1st. Dowson Tong, senior vice-president of Tencent was invited to give a keynote speech at the meeting. In his remarks, Mr. Tong announced Tencent’s plan to focus on the following three trends in consumer Internet going forward:

The upgrade of content consumption has called for the provision of high-quality content. There is an urgent need to improve the quality of spiritual life as well. On the one hand, companies need to find creative ways to produce high-quality content. On the other hand, it’s necessary for them to do more to protect the copyright of content and crack down on rumors.

Advanced technologies need to be leveraged to make it easier for people to work in cultural and creative industries. Technologies, such as Audio and Video and AI, have simplified the tools people in cultural and creative industries use, enabling more people to get involved in literary and artistic creation.

Social interactions are growingly integrated with tools and content platforms. An increasing number of young people has given preference to content-based social interactions and has enjoyed diversified content on social platforms. At the same time, content platforms have developed into places suitable for people to socialize, seeking to provide interactive content in a timely way.

Recently, Tencent have established CSIG, a new BG that aims to pool together the company’s technological strengths in security, AI, and location-based services. Tencent Cloud will launch its “Yunqi Plan” and increase its investment in the Industrial Internet with partners in the next 3 years.

Firstly, Tencent will invest more in key verticals such as smart retail, health care, education, mobility, manufacturing and digital city as a digital assistant. It aims to develop systematic plans to improve the ease of working with digital applications, and help companies achieve greater understanding of the industry and provides tailor-made consulting services for partners.

Industrial Internet is about serving both companies and individual users. Tencent will serve the industry by means of Customer to Business (C2B) and carve out a place for itself in Industrial Internet in the next 20 years.
