Hu Xiaoming, senior vice president of Alibaba Group and president of Alibaba Cloud, delivered a keynote speech entitled “Let Science and Technology Be More Warmer” at China International Big Data Industry Expo 2018 on May 27th.

Hu Xiaoming stated that they are looking forward to letting technology play its role in poverty alleviation. “Alibaba hopes that technology can help people know ‘how to fish’ instead of ‘directly giving fish’ to them. The real poverty alleviation is like ‘blood production’ instead of ‘blood transfusion’. Alibaba’s ecological force and technology enable them to enter into the process of industrial development and help them get rid of poverty. "

Poverty alleviation is not just a slogan. At the end of last year, Alibaba officially identified poverty relief as a strategic business of the group. Jack Ma, Chairman of Alibaba Group said, “Poverty alleviation has become Alibaba’s strategic business. The purpose of this business is the rural revitalization plan.” At the same time, Alibaba announced the establishment of a 10 billion RMB poverty alleviation fund to carry out targeted poverty alleviation projects and explore a new model of “Internet +Poverty Alleviation”.

Hu emphasized that Alibaba is determined to bring more poverty alleviation benefits which are far more than RMB 10 billion or even more through technological and scientific empowerment. “In the path of poverty alleviation, we are involved in five major sectors: The first one is e-commerce; The second one is health; The third one is education; The fourth one is women’s poverty alleviation and the fifth one is ecological alleviation.” Hu said.
