Zhang Yiming, founder & CEO of China’s news aggregation platform Bytedance, shared its globalization strategy details on the 1st Digital China Summit in China’s southern city, Fuzhou, on April 23rd.

Zhang said that Bytedance’s will export its core AI technology to overseas markets and provide a unified product experience to the global users. Bytedance will also adopt localized operation strategy and build a global content creating platform.

Zhang believes that China has become the center of global resource allocation. Chinese companies are constantly developing at both ends of the value chain. In this process, Chinese enterprises should make good use of the advantages of global allocation to achieve the scale effect of global markets, organizations, and human resources. Especially in the Internet industry where the marginal cost is rapidly reduced. Whether companies can achieve global development will determine whether they can continue to participate in the competition in the long term.

Bytedance started its globalization layout in 2015. Zhang said that exporting Bytedance’s technology to overseas markets is the core strategy for its globalization, and that artificial intelligence (AI) technology is the key to its dominant position in the global market. The main AI research areas of Bytedance include machine learning, natural language understanding, computer vision and human-computer interaction robotics. Bytedance has invested integrated information platforms such as TopBuzz, News Republic, and short video platforms such as Tik Tok, Musical.ly, Flipagram, Vigo Video, or BuzzVideo. All these companies use the data mining technology.
