GAC New Energy Automobile announced on April 14th that its first car model will be put into production in 2019. The company plans to roll out at least two new models of electric vehicles (EVs) per year since then.

According to Gu Huinan, General Manager of GAC New Energy Automobile, GAC Zhilian New Energy Automobile Industrial Park, with an expectation of total investment of over RMB 45 billion (USD 7.16 billion), has been built since last April. The planned production capacity of the plant for the first phase will be 200,000 units per year. The plant will be completely by the end of 2018. And the first model of it will be put into production in 2019. GAC plans to unveil at least two new EV models every year.

Gu said that in the future, GAC New Energy Automobile will be primarily focusing on EVs, with plug-in hybrid vehicles as supplement. Besides, immense efforts will be put into developing intelligent connected vehicle technology.

In addition, GAC Group is aiming to achieve the mass production of intelligent driving technologies through industrialization, which will be completed with four steps. By 2019, GAC will be testing L4 highly-automated self-driving cars and will gradually move on to test L5 fully-automated self-driving cars.
