Hisense Medical Rolls Out Digitalized Operation Room, Setting On The Hardware Development + Customization Model

With 48 years of accumulation in display and image processing technologies, Hisense has made it into the medical equipment sector from scratch starting as an appliance maker. In fact, extending to the medical sector is also an opportunity to boost the appliance business for Hisense.

With the holding group’s rich accumulation of image and data processing technologies, Hisense Medical is bringing forth a precise and smart operation room system. On May 15th, Hisense Medical’s general manager Wang Shilei explained the subsidiary’s business logic on the 77th China International Medical Equipment (Spring) Fair.

Hisense Medical was founded in February 2014, a subsidiary of the Hisense Group. At present, Hisense Medical is focusing on operation room digitalization, display system of medical use, computer-aided operation system and mobile nursing.

In early 2017, Hisense Medical launched Precise Digitalized Operation Room System, a system solution consisting of five core components: Computer-Aided Operation System, Surgical Intelligent Display, Intelligent Central Control, All-In-One Station, professional displays, and mobile instruction system. Hospitals can customize the digital operation room service according to their needs. It took nearly eight years for Hisense Medical to develop this product and launched it into the market.

The level of operation room digitalization is in fact an indicator of the development of hospital information technologies. Compared with the traditional “isolated” operation rooms, Hisense’s digitalized operation rooms can achieve the information flow between the operation rooms in the hospital. The digitalized system also enables hospitals to collect, aggregate and manage information, as well as effective communication. It’s reported that after the implementation, the digitalized operation room has completed over one thousand cardiac surgeries, with a 20% increase of overall surgery efficiency.

In the digitalized operation room, the computer-aided system (CAS) and surgery intelligent display (SID) are the two products Hisense Medical rolled on in December 2015. By analyzing patients’ CT data, CAS constructs a 3D operation simulation that helps the doctors locate the causes and prepare optimized operation solution.

The CAS has generated a 7% increase in removal rate, 27% decrease in blood transfusion rate, and has helped corrected 34% of operation plans in one year.

“With the CAS’s 3D imaging function, we can make more accurate diagnosis and surgical plans, In the past we rely on our own experience,” professor Dong Kuiran at pediatric surgery department of the Children’s Hospital of Fudan University said. He has successfully performed three siamese twins separating operations with the help of the CAS.

TMTPost learned that the 3D imaging service has already been listed in the medical insurance category and patients can choose to use this service for abdominal operation planning at the charge of ¥2000. Currently, over 50 hospitals are using this system, 30 of which are level-three grade-A hospitals. CAS has aided doctors in solving over 1000 complex cases, especially in siamese twins separation and pediatric oncology.

“Using technologies as extra support will help doctors increase the diagnosis efficiency and the success rate of operations. In the past there was only a 5% chance of completely removing porta hepatis tumors, but now the number has been boosted to 70%,” Dr. Chen Yongjian at Hisense Medical said.

The mobile nursing terminal is the first product from Hisense Medical that is designed to work outside the operation rooms. It’s a mobile terminal with scanning function and connected to the mobile nurse station. It centers around the nursing work after operation and aims for help nurses increase their working efficiency.

According to the general manager of Hisense’s digitalized operation room products, this mobile terminal device is also equipped with smart scanner besides basic smartphone features. One obstacle in developing this device is figuring out a way to keep up the patient scan efficiency and help nurses track the following medical services. So far this device is only available in Qingdao.
