Trips During China’s Golden Week Up 71.3% Y-o-Y
BEIJING, October 7 (AsianFin) -- About 826 million trips were completed during the eight-day national holidays, representing a 71.3% increase from the same holidays last year but merely 4.1% up from the pre-pandemic period in 2019. Revenues from the tourism sector amounted to 753.4 billion yuan, which was a year-over-year increase of 129.5% but only 1.5% up from the same period of 2019 on a comparable basis, according to the data from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. Based on the data of online travel agencies (OTAs), the trips made during the first four days of the longest holidays this year that began on last Friday in September and ended on the first Saturday in October, were mainly for family reunion and those during the second half were for sightseeing and leisure. China has a population of over 1.4 billion.
